To calculate a label value for your portion, multiply the stated value by the grams you take, then divide by the grams that the label value refers to. For a per-100-g panel, the divisor is 100. For a per-serving value, use that serving's stated weight. The result is a label-based estimate, not a measurement of your bowl.
Start with the panel on the food you have
Use the label for the exact product and flavour. A number for plain popped makhana cannot fill a gap on a seasoned snack's panel. Our makhana nutrition evidence guide explains why food form and preparation matter.
FSSAI's labelling text distinguishes a nutrition declaration's reference basis from the metric weight of a stated serving. It also uses different units for different entries, including grams, milligrams and kilocalories. Check the column heading and unit together before copying a number. Calculate one label value
- Choose one numeric entry from the nutrition panel and keep its unit, such as g, mg or kcal. Do not enter a percentage from a separate reference-intake column.
- Check whether that number refers to 100 g or to a stated serving. For a serving-based number, find the serving's weight in grams. The net weight of the whole pouch is not automatically the serving weight.
- Enter the grams in the portion you want to calculate. Use a measured weight rather than guessing from the size of a bowl or the number of puffs.
The label-value and portion fields start empty so that you can use your own label. No Namaste Makhana nutrition figures or suggested portion size are supplied.
Use the numbers on your own label. This tool has no Namaste Makhana nutrition values. It scales one exact label value at a time, keeping the same unit.

The formula works without the calculator
Value for your portion = label value × portion grams ÷ reference grams.
The reference grams must be greater than zero. The result keeps the unit of the original label value. For a per-100-g entry, use 100 as the reference; for an entry per 30 g serving, use 30.
A made-up example, only to show the arithmetic
Imagine a fictional label states 8 g of a nutrient per 100 g. For an example portion weighing 20 g:
8 × 20 ÷ 100 = 1.6 g.
If the same fictional information were expressed as 2.4 g per 30 g serving, the calculation would be 2.4 × 20 ÷ 30 = 1.6 g. The reference weight changes with the column you use.
These numbers do not describe makhana or any Namaste Makhana product. The example portion is not a suggested amount to eat.
Four checks before using the result
- Keep the units attached. Grams and milligrams are different: 1 g equals 1,000 mg. A result in mg stays in mg. This gram-based tool does not convert a liquid's per-100-ml panel into a per-100-g panel.
- Missing does not mean zero. A blank field or an absent nutrient entry supplies no number to calculate. Enter zero only when the label explicitly states zero; the output then reflects that printed declaration, not a new laboratory finding.
- Preserve qualifications. A statement such as “less than 0.5 g” is a bound, not an exact 0.5 g value. This calculator accepts plain numeric values; do not remove qualifiers to make an entry fit.
- Avoid false precision. Copy the printed value without rounding it again first. If the label has already rounded a number, multiplying it cannot recover the missing digits. Keep intermediate arithmetic intact and treat the displayed result as an estimate.
Use the result alongside the rest of the label
Arithmetic answers how a stated value scales with weight. It does not establish the recipe, allergens, dietary suitability or an appropriate daily amount. Namaste Makhana's approved nutrition panels have not yet been published, so this tool cannot supply those missing values.
